Highlights

You can view the artist's past and present works side by side.

Realistic paintings take a long time to create.
It takes three to four months, sometimes over a year, to complete a piece.

During that time, the artist's way of thinking and seeing things,

I think it can be said that it expresses the beauty that the artist's eyes perceive.

So, is the emotion that the artist wants to convey, or the beauty seen through the artist's eyes, something that will never change?

What has changed and what hasn't changed in the artist's consciousness over the past 20 or 30 years?

I think it would be interesting to try and understand such things.

And how will young artists change in the future?

Please come and see it.

'Silk Gauze'' 2003

''Bathed in Sunlight'' 2009

''Glow'' 2020

''Creation'' 2013

Nobuyuki Shimamura

Four works from the series are on display, including the one in Gallery 2, including ''Silk Gauze'' which is a beautiful depiction of a nude woman and gauze.

White background with gauze and a lying nude woman. Although the motifs depicted are the same, the white background, the way the light is depicted, and the texture of the skin differ from work to work. In ''Creation'' the only surface on which the woman is sleeping is depicted as a sheet instead of a flat surface, and the difference between the bright, warm light of ''Silk Gauze'' and the light that shines into the dim space of ''Glow'' emphasizes the depiction of light. Please pay attention to the artist's various depictions and appreciate them.

FREE Wi-fi has been installed in the building. Communication is now possible even in basements where there was no signal until now. *Please refrain from talking on the phone inside the building.

At this special exhibition, by reading the QR code with your smartphone, you can view a highlight guide that shows important points for viewing the works along with images of the works.

''Bread and Lemons'' 2010

'Glassware and Lemon'' 2008

''Still-life with Wine Glass'' 2021

Fumihiko Gomi

Fumihiko Gomi's still life paintings are drawn with particular attention to the expression of texture. If you look for objects of the same material in the paintings and compare them, such as the freshness of lemons, the transparency of glass, or the motif of rusted iron, you will see that they are more detailed and more realistic. ''Bread and Lemons'' and ''Still-life with Wine Glass'' are both still life paintings with a black background, but ''Bread and Lemons'' is painted with strong contrasting shadows, whereas ''Still-life with Wine Glass'' motif, the depth and expressions in the shadows are even more precisely drawn. In addition to comparing the same objects, one of the points of interest is the change in composition on the screen. As time passes, the lemon in his work has moved from asserting itself to interfering with other motifs, and the way he has shown it has also changed.
